Falling 10/52

The Water Closet

September 22nd, 2010

Today, I get to cross off the first of the Fall Fifteen, a completed room makeover. However, I may have cheated a bit by doing a room that is so small it can hardly be considered a room. Our half bath, as the listing agent called it, is only 26 inches wide by 58 inches long. It is very small space indeed. I wouldn’t even bother calling it a half bath. It would make more sense to call it a ¼ bath or maybe we should just say water closet. I mean, there is hardly enough room to turn around with the full sized toilet at one end and a miniature sink at the other.

The reason the room needed some help, in our opinion, was because it came in this disgusting butter cream color that resembled urine more than butter cream. Anyway, it was dingy and no amount of cleaning, scrubbing or elbow grease could make it look clean, even though it was. Plus, I’m not that fond of yellow, at least on my walls, so it was due for a change.

I dug out the leftover gray paint from Pinky’s bedroom makeover and decided to tackle the water closet, with the hopes of somehow making the room seem not quite so claustrophobic.

We also opted to change out the yucky old faucet for something a little sleeker. Just that change alone bumped the room’s coolness factor up by 50 points at least.

New Bath 2

In the spring, we found this French convex mirror at a yard sale and snagged it for only $10. Even though it is small, its shape helps to make the room feel a little bigger. Plus, you can stand in front of it and feel like you’re in the fun house at a fair. Function and Humor.

New Bath 3

In our previous half bath, we had this “artwork” that I had made with Photoshop and printed out on regular old printer paper. You know how much I like cheap homemade art. Oh, the numbers represent our wedding anniversary. It isn’t too fancy, but it works nicely on the wall above the toilet. Now, Chris never has a good excuse to miss our special day because he must look at it every time he needs to, well you know. Not that he ever did forget.

New Bath 4

Here is the throne in all of her glory. Exciting, I know. See that little knob on the top? Yeah, that’s the flusher. (Is that a technical term?)

New Bath 5

Luckily for us the darker/ cooler hued paint color, the convex mirror and the accessories worked to make the space feel a tiny bit roomier and cleaner. Success!! So what do you think? Does the makeover make the bath look better? Or would you have left the butter cream paint and opted for some other sort of change? Do tell.

Baby Be Gone

September 21st, 2010

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to share with you a major milestone. (I had a super awesome post for today, but this is much, much more important, so that will have to wait.)

Pinky lost her first baby tooth today at school, during lunch! Apparently, there was a pear involved and a little pulling, but like I mentioned yesterday, she has few little toofers that are loose, so it wasn’t that hard to get it out.

And the tooth made it home safely thanks to the Tooth Taxi. The Tooth Taxi is just an old film canister that Pinky’s teacher put a little tooth sticker on. I thought the idea was brilliant and that name is too cute.

She Lost a Tooth 2

This evening, Pinky informed me that her tooth was named Annie and she wrote a special note about Annie for the Tooth Fairy. I wonder how many other teeth the Tooth Fairy has that have their own individual names?

She longed t’ sail t’ seven seas, but she was forced t’ be a land lubber, forbidden t’ leave t’ porch.

Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day!

Today’s photo was captured with Pinky fully playing the part of the pirate, language and all. Arrrrr! A little post processing went into this photo to blacken out one of her teeth. She hasn’t lost any yet, but she does have several loose ones!

She Keeps Getting Older

September 18th, 2010

Things have been pretty busy around here lately. I honestly didn’t realize that there would be some many forms to fill out and things to attend for Pinky’s first year of school! We’ve had field trip forms, photography forms, emergency contact forms, and every other kind of form you can think of. I didn’t realize that so many forms existed! Whoa, I believe that was just a mini rant…

Anyway, it’s getting to be that time of year again. The time where any and all extra time is spent working on Pinky’s party stuff. She will be 6! EEK! This year, though, things will be a little bit more low key than they have in past years. Instead of renting a hall, we will have the party at our house. And obviously, since we have moved half way across the country, our guest list will be slightly modified. (We wish we could celebrate with everyone from back home! You will be missed.) I’ve also decided to stick to making only deserts this year and ordering some pizza for dinner. Hey, since I will be saving some time by not cooking, it will give me more time to clean and entertain, right? Don’t worry; it will still be super awesome.

Here is the invitation. Pretty snazzy, huh?

Pinky's Invite 2010

Personal info changed for privacy.

Instead of a movie theme like previous years, Pinky has chosen a zoo party this time and she is still requesting that guests come dressed in costume, so it will be neat to see what everyone comes up with. Here is a TINY sneak peak at the direction we will be going in. No fear, pink haters; there will be other colors worked into the theme, but you will have to check back later to see the after party pictures for the full story.
