Introducing Sweet Pea
AKA Peanut/ The Wee Man/ Small Fry
I can’t believe that it has been 3 whole weeks since Sweet Pea was born. Time must have just disappeared because I don’t know where it went. We are still trying to get our bearings straight with everything and it seems that life is not slowing down for us anytime soon. Because so much has happened in the past several weeks and also because I’m not really up to telling the long story about his birth right now, I’m going to do a shorter recap.
37 weeks pregnant. False labor. Dangerously high blood pressure. 24 hour urine sample. Overnight hospital stay. Proteinuria. Labor induction. Baby’s heart rate dropping. Mom’s BP soaring. Fear. Emergency C-Section. Cord around baby’s neck twice. Low birth weight (3lbs. 14oz.) Crazy emotions. Vomiting. Tiny placenta. Low blood sugar. Special care nursery. Extended hospital stays. Blood pressure medication. Preeclampsia. HELLP Syndrome. More crazy emotions. More fear. Nephrologist. Blood tests. Urine tests. Spells. Car seat woes. Visiting nurses. Too many Dr. appointments.
After a 9 day hospital stint, I was discharged and Sweet Pea was allowed to come home 2 days later. Sadly, we don’t have one of those amazing first photos of Chris, Sweet Pea and I in the operating room mainly because the side of my face was covered in vomit and that just would not have been pretty. (Well, that and the fact that Chris and I were pretty much in shock considering all that had just happened at that point, so pics weren’t our first thought.) We do however have this very sweet family photo of Pinky’s first meeting with her new brother. She is totally smitten.
