Framed

Way back when, you may remember me mentioning that we were giving Pinky’s bedroom a much needed makeover. Slowly, but surely, we are getting things accomplished and this past week, we finally got some cheapo art work made and hung. The mood board that we originally did featured 3 framed pieces: an alphabet print, a silhouette, and the word love.

Pinky's New Room

I have a ridiculous number of home interior photos saved on my computer for inspiration. We are talking more than several hundred photos organized by room in folders in a folder on my desktop. (I’ve even had to move some to my external hard drive to free up some room!) Anyway, several months before we moved, Pinky and I were perusing through the photos in the kids’ room folder and she pointed out that she really liked the pieces in the following photo…

This photo is not mine. I’m not sure whose it is, but if you happen to come across the owner, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due! Thanks.

Look familiar? Well, being the total DIY girl that I am, I whipped up some of my own in Photoshop. They aren’t exactly the same, because we obviously have a different color scheme going on and along the way I decided I also wanted to incorporate an owl for the O in LOVE. (That change happened a few weeks ago.) However, the alphabet and love prints are pretty much knock offs of those. And the silhouette? It’s just a super easy project that I had wanted to do for awhile and I thought that it might be cute to incorporate it into Pinky’s space.

The reason I called this project cheapo was because we used stuff we already had for the whole sha-bang! The frames, originally from Wal-Mart, were already ours and had been transformed from brown to black a couple of years ago. I dug them out of one of our storage boxes and slapped on a quick coat of white paint to make them pop against the darker gray wall. There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to give something unused a new life! The prints themselves were tremendously easy too. I used my own home printer and regular old cardstock we had lying around. We love the end results and Pinky is thrilled to finally have something pretty on her walls.

So, what do you think? Did we pull of the DIY artwork or should we have gone with something already made? What kind of homemade art do you have around your home, if any? Spill the beans!
